KBS Seeking CEO For 2027 SEA Games, ASEAN Para Games Organising Committee

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) is searching for a chief executive officer (CEO) for the Organising Committee for the 34th SEA Games and the 15th ASEAN Para Games scheduled to be held in the country in 2027.

Its Minister, Hannah Yeoh said they will hold discussions with the Public Service Department (JPA) to select the individual who will shoulder that responsibility before listing in detail the members of the Organising Committee of the biennial Games.

"After the Hari Raya Aidilfitri, we will hold talks with the JPA to appoint the CEO and it is the CEO who will decide on the appointments of the other committees.

"We don't have much time before we host the Games, so whoever becomes the CEO will have to go with the flow and get cracking,” she told reporters at the launching of Taska Team MAS at the National Sports Institute (NSI) in Bukit Jalil here today.

Yesterday, the government approved the establishment of the Organising Committee for the 34th SEA Games and the 15th ASEAN Para Games.

Malaysia last hosted the SEA Games in 2017, which saw the country's contingent finishing as overall champions with a medal haul of 145 golds, 92 silvers and 86 bronzes.

Malaysia had previously hosted the biennial Games in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2017.

Thailand will host the 33rd edition of the Games in December at three locations - Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla.

Earlier, Hannah officiated the launch of Taska Team MAS, which is a significant move to enhance welfare support for athletes, coaches and the sports agency's staff at KL Sports City.

Hannah said Taska Team MAS is not merely a childcare centre but a symbol of the ministry's commitment to helping athletes and sports staff balance career demands and family responsibilities.

"This childcare centre will operate from 7 am to 7 pm. Why 7 am? That's because many of our athletes train early in the morning. Besides, outside childcare centres might not be open at 7 am or 8 am,” she said.
