COMPLETE LIST OF PLAYERS FOR NSC PROJECT SQUAD TO BE SUBMITTED BY END DECEMBER - PSM
MELAKA, Dec 8 (Bernama) -- The Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) will send the list of National players selected for the National Sports Council (NSC) Project squad by end of the month, as part of their preparations for major competitions next year.
PSM President Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said so far, a total of 14 names have been submitted and they will be completed through selection based on the performance of the players after the conclusion of the 2024 Tun Ali Cup Sepak Takraw Tournament which ends today.
"The coaching staff led by Ahmad Jais Baharun will look into this matter further because we will look at various aspects such as the consistency of the players' performance, the ability of their respective positions in the team or doubles event.
"In a recent meeting with the Director General of NSC, we sent 14 names whose positions we identified. so there are only four more spots left, but PSM has applied for up to seven additional players with at least 21 players listed in the project," he told reporters here today.
He said this after the 2024 Tun Ali Cup Sepaktakraw Tournament Prize Presentation Ceremony officiated by the Yang Dipertua of Melaka Tun Dr Mohd Ali Rustam.
Commenting further, Mohd Sumali said the NSC Project squad will face major tournaments next year such as the Asian Cup is scheduled for May, the Thai King's Cup (July or August) and the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand (December).
In the meantime, he said PSM also plans to organise the National Youth Cup next year for the under-20 category as an effort to boost the development of sepak takraw at the grassroots level since the sport is gaining attention from the community.
"This effort can also be seen through the response and positive feedback we received following the competition in the Women's team category for the first time in this edition of the Tun Ali Cup Sepak Takraw Tournament because there was no tournament for that category previously.
"We are confident that next year this participation will be more enthusiastic and this is the starting point for PSM to take steps to find talented female player to be exposed at the international level," he said.
