ISKANDAR PUTERI, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail has consented to the joint organisation of the 2027 SEA Games football event in Johor.

State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman Mohd Hairi Mad Shah said Tunku Mahkota Ismail gave his consent during an audience on Thursday (Nov 28).

As such, he said, the state government will submit an official application to the Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) next week.

“However, the venue locations and the cost involved will be announced after discussions are held between the 2027 SEA Games Secretariat, the KBS and the Johor Sports Council,” he told a media conference at the sidelines of the Johor state assembly sitting here today.

On Wednesday (Nov 27), Mohd Hairi was reported as saying that the Johor government intends to co-host the 2027 SEA Games by offering several venues for football events.

Mohd Hairi was quoted as saying that the offer was made because the state has good football facilities with direct access not only to Kuala Lumpur but also to Singapore.

Yesterday, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh was reported to have said that the ministry is awaiting official confirmation from the Johor government to be a co-organiser of the 2027 SEA Games for football.

Meanwhile, state Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon told a separate media conference today that food samples had been taken in connection with the food poisoning case involving 13 students from Sekolah Rendah Agama Bersepadu Muar on Wednesday (Nov 27).

He said that samples of lunch items sold at the school canteen had been taken, including bubur.

“We expect to receive the results of the food samples within this week,” he said, adding that all the affected students are in stable condition.

The media had previously reported that the 13 school students, from Standard One to Standard Six, received outpatient treatment at government clinics and hospitals as well as private hospitals.
