SHAH ALAM, June 15 (Bernama) -- National sepak takraw player Zuhri Muhammad Zin feels the experience of playing on the international stage for the first time in Vietnam last month, will help him give his best performance at the King’s Cup World Championship from July 24 to 31.

The 21-year-old, however, said that there are still many weaknesses from the Hanoi Sea Games that need to be improved when he plays in Bangkok later.

“This (Hanoi SEA Games) is my first appearance which has given me a taste of playing at the international level.

"Actually, there is still a lot lacking in terms of skills because I am still a greenhorn so I will definitely improve myself for the next tournament," he said when met by reporters at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam Sports Complex Hall Centre here today.

At the 31st SEA Games, Zuhri helped Malaysia win the silver medal in the men's team event and saw the squad coached by Abdul Talib Ahmad successfully defend their achievements in the 2019 edition in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, national petanque athlete Sharifah Aqilah Farhana Syed Ali felt her performance had matured in her third appearance at the biennial sports event after successfully winning a silver in the doubles event compared to the bronze in the 2019 edition.

In her debut appearance in the 2017 edition, she failed to grab any medal.

Earlier, UiTM Deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs) Prof Dr Mohd Sazili Shahibi presented incentives to 22 students and four UiTM staff who represented the country at the 31st SEA Games.

Of that number, 10 UiTM athletes who each managed to bring home a medal were given exemption from tuition fees and accommodation until the end of their studies.

Mohd Sazili said the incentive was a token of appreciation for their efforts and services in bringing glory to the country and giving an impact on UiTM as a centre of higher learning that focuses on the development of national sports.

“They (athletes) must be encouraged to continue to represent the university and the country. Therefore, we provide (incentives) so that they will continue to be in high spirit until graduation,” he said.
